Divorcing is hard enough when you only have to worry about yourself, but it is even more difficult when you have children at home. You have to help them to cope with the divorce while you are helping yourself to do the same. This can be challenging, but it isn’t impossible.

There are many different ways that you can help your children work through the divorce. You have to figure out what is best for your child. One of the most important things that you can do right now is to try to get the child custody case settled quickly.

As you help your children settle in to the new way of life, you need to find out how they are handling things. Don’t take a shallow answer for granted. For example, you might ask how they feel about specific situation or what they like or dislike about the new way of doing things.

When your child does come to you with concerns, listen carefully. Remember that the kids aren’t miniature adults. They might need help expressing their feelings in an appropriate way. This is likely very stressful for them so try to be patient and understanding.
